Midwest Immigration Bond Fund Expands their Service Area to Minnesota

CHICAGO (12 January 2026) — In the face of increased Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) presence, and a lack of an active in-state immigration bond fund, the Midwest Immigration Bond Fund (“MIBF”) announces that it is expanding its service area to include Minnesota.

Since 2021, MIBF has been posting immigration bonds for residents of Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, and Kentucky (or individuals who intend to live in one of these states upon release) regardless of where they are detained. MIBF also posts bonds for people detained by ICE in facilities in Indiana, Wisconsin, and Kentucky regardless of their residency. This expansion marks MIBF’s first since its founding.

Thanks to a broad base of support from organizations and individuals in Illinois, the last state to have been terrorized by immigration officials, MIBF has the financial and logistical capacity to extend their service area to cover Minnesota.

In the spirit of community, and in line with MIBF’s vision of liberating and reuniting individuals with their loved ones, we recognize our responsibility to support immigrants in Minnesota by helping cover bond payments. This work is essential to reuniting families and keeping our communities whole.

This announcement comes at a critical time, given the Trump administration’s terrorization of immigrants in Minnesota. The racially-motivated and xenophobic attacks, particularly on the Somali community, have been the latest expression of the Trump administration’s entrenched disdain for members of our community.

“As a bond fund, we operate within a larger ecosystem of organizations that are fighting for the abolition of immigration detention and carceral politics,” said Guadalupe Perez, president of the Midwest Immigration Bond Fund. “Our role has, and continues to be, the support of people at an individual level, while adding our voices to a growing chorus calling for abolition. We have been contemplating this expansion since the fall, and look forward to enacting it, building connections and community with the organizations and individuals already doing this work in Minnesota, and to get Minnesotans home.”
